Background
Technology is becoming a powerful tool in the quest for total physical fitness. With the ability to track distance and log workouts, smartphones and like devices are playing an ever-increasing role in the way athletes record various physical activities such as running and weight training.
Problem Statement
In order to fully incorporate technology for the purposes of gauging physical performance, smartphone and similar technology need to be taken to the next generation through the development of application software to measure calisthenic exercises in much the same way distance and pace is automatically measured with GPS. Simply put, maximum data capture with minimal direct input from an athlete.

The Solution
One such software application is CCX-Alpha, an application developed with the capability of capturing various calisthenic exercises such as push-ups, pull-ups, dips, and running. Apart from these core features, CCX-Alpha also aims to make running safer by by controlling the audio volume and enabling a headlight at points along the run deemed "dangerous" by the athlete.

Key Features of CCX-Alpha
Automatically detect and count pull-ups.
Automatically detect and count push-ups
Automatically detect and count dips.
Periodically report temperature, relative humidity, and heat index based on current location.
Allow an athlete to capture push-ups via proximity sensor.
Allow an athlete to use the camera flash as an LED headlight.
Allow an athlete to specify a "danger zone" which will instruct the software to mute audio and turn on a headlight to allow one to become more visible in said zone.
Allow an athlete to record mileage to an NFC tag, with the idea that the NFC tag is worn on the athlete's running shoe.
Allow an athlete to post workouts to social media sites such as Facebook and Twitter as well as share workouts with others via email and text messaging.

Intended Use
CCX-Alpha was designed to run on an Android smartphone using the hardware features available on most late devices:

Accelerometer
In order to accurate detect and count dips, pull-ups, and push-ups the device was intended to be worn on an athlete's waist with the LED pointing outward.

| CCX Alpha Headlight Feature
Using the LED flash found on most smartphones, CCX Alpha allows users to become more visible to others as well as illuminate obstacles that may be encountered during a night or early-morning run.

Mark Danger Zones
Specify danger zones (e.g. busy intersections) along your intended route. When you are within 50 meters, CCX Alpha will automatically mute all audio and turn on the headlight. Upon exit, CCX Alpha will unmute all audio and restore your previous headlight setting.

Use an NFC tag to record your running shoe mileage after each workout.
